Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of acute care BMT
or hematology/oncology experience required. First-time travelers
accepted if they have the required experience. License: Current RN
License (state-specific or compact license). Certifications: AHA
BLS Certification required. ONC Certification required. Must-Have:
Availability to work weekends based on unit needs. Ability to float
within scope to meet facility needs. Description: This is a 36-bed
unit that will soon expand to 51 beds. The unit cares for patients
with blood cancers receiving chemotherapy, biotherapies, and
cellular therapies. Responsibilities include administering
chemotherapy and managing Graft-versus-host disease. Nurses will
monitor patients undergoing chemotherapy and recognize abnormal lab
values. Familiarity with the administration of blood and blood
products is essential. Nurses will also manage central lines,
ports, and handle body fluids post-chemotherapy. Understanding and
applying neutropenic precautions are crucial. Capabilities to
handle acute tumor lysis syndrome, anaphylaxis, extravasation
injuries, hemorrhage, and sepsis will be necessary. Nurses will
monitor for signs of spinal cord compression and manage patient
symptoms like constipation, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. The
patient-to-nurse ratio will be approximately 3-4:1. Availability
for scheduled shifts and pre-approved time off is required, with
certain time frames designated as blackout periods. Travel nurse
applicants must not have been employed by this system in the last
two years. No on-call requirement exists for this position.
