School Nurse Consultant Job Description: A specialized practice of
professional nursing that advances the well being, academic
success, and lifelong achievement of students through removal of
health related barriers and promotion of optimal wellness.
Collaborates with all stakeholders in coordination of multi-tiered
systems of support to ensure personalized care for every student.
Develops and promotes good community relations among various
district and community clientele. PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL
REQUIREMENTS/CONDITIONS: This job will be performed across district
schools, facilities or events, serving students from early
childhood to 21 years of age. The following physical demands are
representative of those that are typically required in the
successful performance of this position, but unforeseen
circumstances may introduce additional demands/exposure or
responsibilities. Frequent District-wide travel to/from assigned
schools or school events, including possible travel on bus with
medically fragile students Generally in a typical school office
environment with standard desk, equipment, fluorescent lighting and
a moderate noise level Frequent sitting, standing, walking,
reaching, stooping, and bending Ability to respond quickly to an
emergency, potentially walking rapidly/running a distance, such as
outside to a playground or athletic field Flexibility to get on
hands and knees to render first aid and CPR Frequent use of hands,
keyboarding and writing Physical ability to perform job functions,
to include individually lifting (up to 50 pounds), moving, pushing
and pulling students, heavy objects and equipment (up to 100
pounds) Vision, auditory, taste, smell and mental acuity within
normal ranges Biological exposure to bodily fluids, bacteria,
communicable diseases, and hazardous waste Occasional exposure to
airborne particles, fumes, and outdoor weather conditions Position
Specific Information (if Applicable): Responsibilities: Identify
students with health needs requiring modifications or
accommodations in the school setting or during school sponsored
events and activities. Assess the health of the school community
and advocate for physical and emotional safety through
collaboration with all stakeholders. Collaborate with others to
fulfill responsibilities related to building district, regional and
state goals and priorities. Participate in comprehensive health
education programs and school health policy development.
Participate in professional growth opportunities. Assure student
health information is protected in accordance with Family
Educational Right to Privacy Act (FERPA) and Health Insurance
Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). Ensure safe delegation
of nursing interventions to unlicensed assistive personnel by
adhering to the provisions of the Colorado Nurse Practice Act (CRS
12-38-101). Use evaluation of student outcomes to measure the
effectiveness of intervention. Provide ongoing consultation
services to staff members. Design disease prevention and health
promotion strategies for the students and school staff. Develop
lesson plans and/or outlines for identified health education needs.
Provide direct health services for the student when appropriate.
Document health related services in designated Medicaid
documentation system for the DCSD School Medicaid Reimbursement
Program as assigned. Develop a health care plan to meet students'
individual health needs in the school setting. Participate as the
health expert on the RTI, special education and 504 teams by
mitigating health related obstacles to learning. Obtain and
interpret student health data for special education assessments and
504 accommodation plans. Certifications: Registered Nurse License -
Colorado, Special Services Provider License - School Nurse -

185 Work Days Full Salary Range: $55,642.00 USD - $119,024.00 USD
Annual Position Salary Schedule Eligibility: Specialist/Extremely
Hard to Hire Licensed position salaries are set based on one of
three salary schedules; General, Hard to Hire, and
Specialist/Extremely Hard to Hire. DCSD will award up to 7 years of
previous licensed teaching experience at the time of hire. Click

salary amounts listed on the schedules are based on a full-time
(1.0) FTE. If applicable, part-time salaries will be prorated
according to the assigned FTE. Benefits: This position is eligible
