Job Description:
Commnet General Purpose and Scope: Commnet Broadband (a
subsidiary of ATN International) is looking for a detail-oriented
technical individual experienced in a service provider environment
within their data and telecommunications transport networks
managing bandwidth capacity and traffic monitoring. The successful
candidate will possess strong written and verbal communication
skills, a willingness to meet business-critical deadlines, proven
time-management and organizational skills, and strong analytical
skills with accuracy and attention to detail. In addition, they
must possess demonstrable documentation skills, the ability to
multi-task, work independently and commit to a technical position
working as part of a team of Transport Engineers, Analysts, and
management resources. The Associate Engineer is authentic, enjoys
working with people and in teams, as well as collaborative
cross-functionally, and customer-driven. One thing that all

communication solutions. In your role, you will be able to impact
both. If you have worked for one of the big LECs/wireless/broadband
providers and have excelled in data network fundamentals, network
utilization and capacity, and their processes, and would like to be
part of the evolution of a network rolling out 4G/5G technologies
and fiber broadband from a backhaul and backbone perspective, this
role might be for you. The candidate must be motivated to
contribute to an evolving and growing network delivering
high-quality broadband communications services to Tribal
Communities & Rural America, driving digital inclusion and
providing access to great education, work, healthcare, safety,
entertainment, and community connectivity. Duties and
Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- The Associate Engineer, Transport Capacity Management will use
daily site reports and SNMP tools like PRTG, NNMi and VisionMETRIX
to monitor the status of the backhaul and backbone transport
network, comprised mainly of microwave, ethernet, and fiber
circuits.
- Initiate augment requests to Transport Engineer based upon site
utilization criteria and traffic data.
- Works directly with Transport Analysts, Engineers, and Data
Engineering and Operations teams
- Works directly with performance/operations teams to
troubleshoot backhaul issues related to packet loss, high latency,
jitter.
- Creation of processes, documentation, and network flow charts
to reflect team standards.
- Utilize network equipment reports and capacity analysis for
budget forecasting
- Maintain all aspects of the network by coordinating and
forecasting bandwidth needs.
- Documentation of network topology maps, network elements, and
transport circuits into our inventory system.
- Work closely with systems/solutions and Transport team to
enhance and/or create Transport management and inventorying
tools
- Assist other team members on various tasks, data entry, and
special projects.
- Other duties as assigned by management. Required
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field, or 3 years
of professional work experience in telecom
- Experience in the Telecommunications industry, specifically in
capacity management and willingness to learn microwave and
fiber-based networks
- Knowledge of Transports speeds and interconnections, industry
carriers, and transport providers
- Experience with DS1/DS3/Ethernet/GIGE/Wave transport circuits
and designs supporting FTTx/GPON/XGSPON
- Experience with circuit performance monitoring and knowledge of
service level metrics
- Knowledge of circuit monitoring tools, i.e., NNMi, PRTG
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of Microwave, and Fiber Optic
Transport systems, interfaces, and cabling specifications.
- Excellent organizational, planning, project, and time
management skills, and who can handle multiple projects and a
diverse range of co-worker personalities
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation
skills
- Proficiency in MS Office platform including Visio, and network
mapping topology tools.
- Travel, less than 10% of the time
- Candidate must reside within one of these CONUS time zones
MT/EST/CST/PST Desired Qualifications:
- Strong analytical skills and competency in the use of traffic
modeling tools and engineering.
- Preferred experience in traffic engineering and capacity
management.
- Knowledge of IP and Ethernet Transport protocols, interfaces,
and routing protocols.
- Prior experience with
DS1/DS3/Ethernet/GIGE/Wave/FTTx/GPON/XGSPON transport circuits and
designs
- Highly motivated self-starter who can work with little or no
supervision.
- Experience and comfortable with scripting and automation
